Koala Kids provides half days of activities on weekends in the Children’s Cancer Centre at The Royal Children’s Hospital.

A Saturday usually starts around 10.30am in the parent lounge with volunteers hosting a fabulous morning tea party donated by our exclusive partners, Treat Catering.
While parents enjoy their choice of espressos or can choose from a wide range of Taprobane teas, volunteers will have set up activities in the playroom, like dancing, sport, craft of other interactive games where everyone can enjoy playing, normally.

On Sundays, families are usually drawn to the irresistible aromas of the pizza ovens warming up around 11 am. Families headed in and out of the ward can call in, glove and hat up and top their own bases with any number of freshly chopped or grated toppings provided specially for Koala Kids by our generous friends at Della Rosa Fine Foods.

There is enough food for everyone, the children and their families, visiting siblings and extended families, plus the oncology and staff on neighbouring wards. We even try and take pizzas down to Emergency too for the team to enjoy if there are enough.

Everyone can choose to eat in the family lounge or takeaway to their work stations or rooms in the ward or the Isolation Unit. We also make room deliveries, to order!

*Please note that whilst we try and accommodate all corporate volunteering teams, sometimes we are unable to facilitate activities for larger groups and when there is high demand for corporate days. Please contact us to see what dates we have available prior to making any plans with your team. We suggest you contact us two months prior to when you wish to volunteer so that we can ensure your team members each hold the necessary prerequisites.
