A very merry tube-free Christmas for Knox! We love A very merry tube-free Christmas for Knox! We love this success story of Koala Kids Pill Swallowing Kits 🧡🧡

“After 2 years and 8 months Knox is NG tube free for Christmas 😍 we cannot thank Koala Kids Foundation enough for their gift of these tools to help Knox overcome his aversion to taking medications orally. Knox was diagnosed with leukaemia on Anzac Day 2020, he had just turned 3. Many of his medicines were crushed tablets that he had to take 5 times a day. He quickly refused anything medicine related even when disguised in his favourite foods or treats.

We are an Adelaide family, so when I reached out to Koala Kids and they provided a pack for Knox without hesitation, I was so incredibly grateful. Knox has spent this year working on taking tablets with this kit at home and during his Occupational Therapy sessions and 2 weeks ago he had his tube removed 😍

We have always approached Knox's treatment with him in control of everything he possibly can be - as there is so much out of his and our control. So having this kit to bring some fun, reduce his fear and make it easier for him to co-ordinate getting the tablet into his mouth at the same time as the liquid to swallow had made all the difference. Knox is in active remission, and we are hoping next Christmas he will be off of all chemotherapy 🌻

Thank you so very much again Koala Kids Foundation, we are enjoying a very merry tube free Christmas 😍”

Proudly supported by @woolworths_au and the @goodfridayappeal, RCH TV helps to promote children’s understnding of hospital and healthcare experiences, while also empowering children and creating a positive experience.

One aspect of RCH TV is Hospital Lingo, a live game show that airs three times a week directly to patient rooms.

“Hospital Lingo is just like bingo but with the weird and wonderful things found in hospital. The educational game distracts patients from their hospital experience, while keeping them engaged and connected. And thanks to support from the @koalakids, there are great prizes to be won,” said Carlie Alicastro, host of Hospital Lingo.

Koala Kids have been supporting Hospital Lingo since 2021, and generously donate a range of toys for patients to win as they play along from their hospital rooms.

“I am very lucky to be able to see the kids’ faces light up with big, wide smiles when they receive their prizes. Not only do they bring joy to the children, but to their parents too. We are so grateful for Koala Kids for making these beautiful prizes possible, and for the happiness they bring to children and young people across the hospital,” Carlie added.
